Is there a difference in stopping between...

The 1" rotors or the heavy duty 1.25 rotors. Here is the situation... I’m upgrading to disc brakes on my 65 c-10 (we can upgrade to 73-87 brakes without modification) and about to start buying some parts and since I’m starting from scratch I thought I would ask. I seem to remember a friend of mine that had the h/d brakes that switched to the non h/d for a set of free lowering spindles and told me he noticed a big difference in stopping power. I tried a search but couldn't find the specifics on this.
Any help would be great.

I don't think there will be a noticable difference in stopping since it is the same diameter rotor, and the caliper still using the same size piston. What will be improved is the ability for the rotor to dissapate heat without warping. If you can go either way, why not go for the HD option. When it comes to brakes, more is better...

What were the heavy duty brakes used on? I have a 73 half ton long bed. What option code should I tell the parts guy I have to get them? Can I use the non HD option brake calipers on the HD rotors?

My 85 came stock with 1.25" rotors. It has the JB5 option code. It was an option you could get if wanted when buying the truck new. No you can't use calipers intended for 1.25" rotors on 1" rotors. You have to swap everything, spindles, rotors and calipers.
