anyone every put a 73-80 steering column in a 67-72 truck. did you have to collapse the intermediate shaft to get it to fit right?

yes you do, I have seen it but never done it myself. I stripped an 87 during the summer with tilt and remember except for the key switch it measured out like it would fit

Re: 73-80 column in 67-72
I'm in the process of converting a tilt from a 76 truck to put in my 70. I just finished semi-gutting it this weekend (took out the locking device and shifting rod) cut away where the ignition and shifter comes out of the column. Filled the holes with JB weld and bondo. Sanded down and painted---you can't tell they were ever there and it now looks like a floor shift column. All my measurements show I will need to shorten it a few inches by colapsing the shaft, otherwise it should work. Will find out this weekend.

I have one as well from a later model truck, would be interested in the pics and also how to collapse the shaft. Thanks.

Re: 73-80 column in 67-72
I have a column out of a 85 van that has the shift indicator on it, probably would work well for our applications.
