86 Silverado

I just found a jem of a deal. Found a 86 Silverado SWB with tilt wheel power windows and door locks and a 350 engine in nice condition bought it for $800. It needs both front fenders, which would be better aftermarket fender or junkyard? My ace mechanic is going to put a new rebuilt 400 smallblock in it for me next week I got from my Father in Law. Will post pics when I get a chance

Re: 86 Silverado

Welcome to the board!! You'll find lots of nice folks here and even more opinions than you'll know what to do with

I'd go to the salvage yard for body parts. In general, you can't beat GM originals. Be sure to check for rust, etc...the obvious. Sometimes ebay has some deals on new parts from someone who maybe had a project in mind then sold it.

Good luck and send us pix of the before/during/after.

Re: 86 Silverado

Hey. Another member from KY, welcome! Well, My '86 GMC could use a new clip, so I'm just going to drive to Summit Racing up in Ohio one day and pick up some new fenders for it. They are goodmark and only cost about 80 bucks, plus me picking them up myself will keep them from being all dinged up when I get them. Also they sell doors for 120 per. That is CHEAP for goodmark stuff. Well welcome and get some pictures up of the beast.

Re: 86 Silverado

If nice, rust free GM fenders are available at a reasonable price, go with the GM stuff. If not, I just bought a couple Veng re-pops for my 87....$100ea, and they fit and look pretty good on the first try without adjusting...the inner fenders fit well too.
