Question Trans & Transfer swap: drum to disc swap

I have a 70 chevy long bed 4x4 with drum brakes & a 4 speed trans with granny low. I also have a 76 chevy long bed 4x4 with disc brakes and a auto trans. I would like to use the parts from the 76 chevy on the 70 chevy. I would like to know if I can interchange the two and what I'm getting into on both projects?

The front end is a no brainer, it will bolt right in. Its about a inch wider per side. Just make sure its the same gear ratio as your current rear axle. Make sure you use a disc brake master cylinder and the valve block from the disc truck also. The tranny and transfer case is not that hard to swap in either. You will need some form of a tranny cooler. And possibly need to drill new holes in the frame for the cross member to be moved back. Your front drive shaft from the 76 should work out fine, but the back may need to be shortened. It depends though, if you have a lift, it may be just right. Good luck.
