Mine is around 200 or so. It should be below the boiling point which is 212.

Re: what engine temp????

thermostats are rated at two different tempatures. 185 and 195. i typicly put a 185 in my truck just becuse i think it runs better that way but the truck came with a 195.

ACTUALLY... YOU CAN GET THERMOSTATS DOWN TO 165 DEGREES UP TO 195 DEGREES IN 5 DEGREE INCREMENTS. IF YOUR COOLING SYSTEM IS WORKING PROPERLY, YOUR ENGINE TEMP. SHOULD NEVER GO MORE THAN A FEW DEGREES OVER WHAT YOUR THERMOSTAT IS RATED FOR. EXAMPLE...WITH A 180 DEG. T/S.... AT 180 DEG.s YOUR THERMOSTAT OPENS ALLOWING COLD WATER TO ENTER YOUR BLOCK FROM YOUR RADIATOR, THUS COOLING OFF YOUR BLOCK & CLOSING YOUR THERMOSTAT FOR THE CYCLE TO REPEAT ITSELF. CLEAR AS MUD HUH?? Re: what engine temp????

yes..........you have to have it hot enough to burn off the deposits that engines leave in the oil. Plus to a certain point heat wise the hotter the better efficiency

Re: what engine temp????

Our pickups were designed for 180° F. thermostats. Manufacturers later went to 195° thermostats for reduction of emissions. The down side of the 195° thermostats is that they create much higher pressures in the cooling system resulting in much larger leaks and components fail sooner. Most of the time if you use a 160° thermostat, you can remove the radiator cap and drive around all day without experiencing any problems. This is a plus if your cooling system has any leaks or is weak.
