Grounds are always a suspect! Try the cluster ground engine ground check em all.

Is your belt in good shape and tight? Ive seen the light glow from a loose belt.

not checked the belt yet, good point will check that one, checked all the ground cables i can see but im putting new one in to be on the safe side

You could have a wire grounding out on something. I wasn't using my factory temp. sending unit wire and it was ground out on the block, causing the temp light to stay on continuously. Check all the wiring to the alternator and makes sure none are skint/broken.

As a footnote, how far are you from Kings Lynn? I used to live near RAF Lakenheath.
