250 vs 292 inline six
I have a 250 and a 292 inline six, One of these I will be putting in my 69 gmc. Does any body know the horsepower and torque diffrences between the two? Any advantages to using either engine? The both run perfect and have the same mileage?
Thanks, Mark |

292 is a little more strongly constructed and has a little more "grunt" to it. If you have all of the accessories for both you should be okay. 292 takes a few different parts than the rest of the family (194-230-250). Either should work well for you.

Re: 250 vs 292 inline six
It probably depends on the year of the motor:
But my '71 Owner's manual says: 250cid = 8.5:1, 145hp@4200(Gross), 110hp@4000(Net), 230tq@1600(Gross), 185tq@1600(Net) 292cid = 8.0:1, 165hp@4000(Gross), 130hp@4400(Net), 270tq@1600(Gross), 225tq@2400(Net)

Re: 250 vs 292 inline six
Since you got both I'd use the 292.............I went with a 250 mainly because we have a ton of them laying around here, and it was a drop in and go deal.

Re: 250 vs 292 inline six
i would also use the 292 because it's got a little more power and torque and because it's built better but as said before you will need a few different parts for it

Re: 250 vs 292 inline six
Check your frame stands for the motor mounts. The right side on the 292 is ahead of all the others and is not a straight drop in.( Later 70's with HEI for sure.)
