Converted stock radios

I have seen a couple of posts but have not found any board members with 1st hand knowledge on the companies that convert stock am or stock am/fm radio to more modern electronics. I would like the stock look but maybe a system to control ipod, mp3 player, xm radio or remote cd unit. I would like it to power good set of 4 speakers with outputs like modern units. (yes, the best of both worlds).

Let me know what you know.

thanks.

Re: Converted stock radios

I bought a period radio for my son's 78 Camaro and the seller puts aux inputs in the old radios so you can plug mp3 players in. I will try to find the sellers eBay name.

Re: Converted stock radios

I have note used this company myself, but I have done some research on it a bit lately. This company takes old am radios and converts them to 180 watt am/fm radios. The cost is a bit pricey, but you keep the vintage look. I e-mailed the guy and he told me like $385-400.

BTY, they take in old radios and refurb/upgrade with new electronics.

Hope this helps,

Adam

Re: Converted stock radios

I am not on my normal computer to have the link but Joe's Classic Radios does it and does nice work. Naturally it is not cheap because you have basically buy a new radio, then have someone hack it up to fit behind the old radio. i will post a link tommorrow.

Re: Converted stock radios

The sweetest setup I have seen was done by a local stereo shop here in
San Diego. Leave the stock radio in the dash. Get a modern deck w/removable
faceplate. Hide the deck under the seat, in the glovebox, where ever... then
hardwire the faceplate to the back of the driver's side sunvisor. Just flip the
visor down to adjust sound, change disks, etc. That was the best setup I have
ever seen.

Re: Converted stock radios

I'm also thinking stereo upgrades but still retaining my stock radio look. I'll be watching this thread for any pointers etc etc.

Re: Converted stock radios

i think custom autosound basically does the same thing. you get the look of a stock radio, but with newer features..
i too am wanting to do the same thing.
