700R4 / 208 question
In an effort to get the SG mobile, I am thinking of putting in a 700/208 out of a '85 Blazer. I know all about the jumpers / modifications that need to be done to make it work, but my question is:
how much longer is the 700/208 than the TH350/205? I would like to use the stock rear ds if possible, but not if I have to move the engine forward a lot. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Paul

Re: 700R4 / 208 question
it will fit. i put one in last week. the shift mecanisum is the hard part which i'm stilll trying to figure out. the drive shaft will have to be shortend. i don't suggest using a stock auto crossmember as a peice of 2x4 steel bolted to the bottom of the frame works just as well.
check the FAQ section for more info as there are tons of threads on this subject. ondrew |

Re: 700R4 / 208 question
I put a 700r4/208 in a 71 Sub a couple years ago. Don't recall how much longer it was either...sorry. But I used the cross member from the 85 blazer donner, just had to space it down about an inch to inch and a half to clear the tunnel, a truck may be different. As for the t-case shifter I used the one from the blazer and only had to lengthen the rod a couple inches. Otherwise not a bad deal, and the low range + first gear of 700 are great!
