Bed repair question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

So I'm in the budgeting stage of my '69 rebuild (which is probablly where I'll be for a while). I'm wondering if repairing the left-rear quarter is better with a patch panel, or trying to find an decent bed. This is a LB. I have found a patch of the area in question.

Buy a whole bed, much cheaper than fixing it. There are lots of them out here, should be plenty in Utah I would think.

Just repair the dent and you do not have to mess with removing the bed, discarding the old bed, finding a new bed, and if you use that patch that you have pictured you will end up with filler in the panel anyways, find a good bodyman and have that repaired.

I had thought about doing that, but my only thought was that the metal is pinched real bad towards the top of the tailight and I didn't think that was repairable. Am I off my rocker?

Take the tail light out and repair the edge from there and the work the outside. Very easy repair, no sweat, that could be done in a few hours time.

its wonders what the old timers can do with metal, and no fillers. now a days its all about the time involved. i would try to work it out with a stud gun and some hammers and dollys, if you dont get it right, well it was time spent learning, then you can use the patch or get a new bed.

Yah looks repairable to me. A stud gun would be a great help to. Id try fixxing it first.

try fixing. Really could be done with little effort(buy a pro body man ) Old timers are best at this as they hate plastic fillers. If not then go with a new bed or bed side. look much better when done and are easyer to get right

i considered getting one of those same patch panels before.. but i was curious.. is it just the outer skin? or is it a whole back half of a bedside? and does it include the entire taillight area? sorry dont mean to hijack, just thought this would be a good time to ask.

if you do the pannel, might want to look into using the adhesive and the flange tool that hvac guys use to recess the pannel, this reduces the heat and welding required but then some filler will be needed

I believe it is just the outside panel without the taillight area.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will go ahead and budget a repair instead of replace for now. I can always move the target right?
