Man Im Bummed.............
some of you just read my post a day or two ago about finding a 4:10 rear for my truck. i was just gonna trade the guy my 3:08 rear and do the swap. i just got done reading that i cant do this cause the axles are different widths between the 68 and 71. i have NO ROOM what so ever for a narrower rear under my truck and i dont have time to mess around with changing out axle shafts etc. man this sucks i knew it was to good to be true. Re: Man Im Bummed.............
If I remember right the pre 1970 axles are about 3/4" (total...bout 3/8 on each side I think) narrower. mounts and everything are the same, the just extended the axles a bit so the rear track would match up with the disk brakes. Unless your wheel offset is way radical, you probably will be OK. You could always try your wheels on there truck to see if clearance will be an issue.

Re: Man Im Bummed.............
would have to be one big spacer along with some long wheel studs
like i said i have NO ROOM for any difference in width. i have a 1/4" between the tire sidewall and my spring now and i dont want to put all the force on the studs by spacing it out. im pretty much SOL on this deal Last edited by QKENUF4U; 11-11-2006 at 11:22 AM. |

Re: Man Im Bummed.............
Yeah, you are a bit tight on wheel space . What about swapping the carriers/pumpkins (not sure what they call then now) between the two?
