has anybody tried a powertrax system in there truck? how do you like them? are they hard to install? any draw backs? are they worth the money? thanks for any information

I saw an installation on one of the TV truck/car shows some time ago. It looked fairly easy for a novice like me. I plan to use one when I get to my rear end, but do not know how they perform in the real world.

I just installed the Powertrax (Richmond) Lock Right locker in my open 12 bolt. It took me about 2 hours total, I cleaned and inspected everything inside the rear end while I had it opened up so it took a bit longer than it had to. The actual installation was really easy if you know what each of the parts inside a rear end is (no pictures with the instructions).
Some people complain of it clicking, but mine is fairly quiet to me just because I have Flowmasters dumped after the axle and can't hear it. I am using the recommended 85W-140.

i have read alot of stuff about them blowing up or just not working. i was also thinking about doing the powertrax, but am now searching the junkyards for an eaton.

I wouldn't drive a big-block with one. A mild-to-medium small block shouldn't have any issues, unless you are lifting it and going with much larger tires. If it is a street rig you really want a limited slip for better road manners. Check out the Eaton or a Detroit TrueTrac.

Yes, they are easy to install, as long as there are no hiccups. When I put the Lock-Right in mine, I found that at some point before my ownership my axle had ingested some water. The outer end of one side gear had rusted and pitted, even though everything else was cherry. Took me nearly an hour of cussin' and beating with a hammer and a brass drift to dislodge the side gear from the carrier.

my brother put one in his 03 gmc, blew after 3 days, powertrax wouldn't warranty. good luck.

beacuse they said it wasn't there fault, we even sent it to them directly took 6 months to find out that they weren't going to warranty it.

oh sure they'rew just as good as a posi// makes you wonder about the dumbass corporate types at gm and ford , why do they spend so much more on real posis when the could save somuch on the makebelive stuff??? and have bigger profits???
