S&P prices, way too high!?!

I was looking over street and performance catalog, I know some things I have looked at are pricier than others, but...
Check out page 81, they have the ls1 install guide listed for $49.95!!!!
I just bought this from my local chevy dealer for $11.32 including tax!
Unreal.
To their credit, they(S&P) do have some cool stuff that nobody else does.

Good for you , doing the shopping and price comparison. That is what it is all about. However, if you are building a motor for a vehicle, they do give you a "One Stop Shop". You have to go there and see the place, it is unique. It is worth the price of admission---So to speak. That guy makes over $1000.00 an hour on just the phone. He is in the shop at 5:30 in the morning and doesn't leave until about 7:00 in the evening. He has calls from all over the world coming in. The last time I was there, he sold a package to a guy in Australia for over $6000.00 and it only took twenty minutes. Imagine what you would have to do to make that kind of money.

Re: S&P prices, way too high!?!

Unfortunately you are correct in both respects. They are expensive in most cases. On the other hand they do the R&D to make parts that you just can't buy anywhere else. They usually have done a conversion with a new motor waaaay before anyone else.

piecesparts you are correct that Mark is a hard working guy. Please don't ask me about his integrity....

Re: S&P prices, way too high!?!

ya,
another thing is, I had a couple of questions, called s&p, and BAM, a live person on the phone, they had an answer for me, and when they did not, they gave me the guys name, to call back in the morning, I did, and he had the answers.
wow, that is customer service!
Not many places like that anymore...

Re: S&P prices, way too high!?!

Having worked in a public business before, I understand that not everyone is going to have a wonderful experience with S&P. I on the other hand have had a good one, so far. Mark aligned me on the TPI project that I am presently working on and provided me a pathway on the LS1 project that I have setting in the garage for another truck. He is a business man and will make his profit in the long run, but he does use a "Human" approach in doing so. His family is involved in the business and the investment of their time is as much as his. If I were to run a business such as his, I would hope to be as successful as he. His shop is a mess from the front door to the trailers in the back, but it is ALL business, no FROO FROO crap for him. Sorry if your day was uspset by Mark. As for expensive, he may have some items priced high, but on the most part his prices will match or even beat the dealers or competitors. (EXAMPLE) I bought replacement fuel injectors for my Impala SS from him because he beat the dealer's price by Half. He knows his products pretty well, also. As long as you understand him, you can deal effectively with him.

I got my TPI system from them in '90 when no one else even had anything close to the kit that they were selling and it was Mark that i talked to and ordered it from.

Anyway the UPS Chimps busted up my system during shipping and they were putting me thru the ringer cuz it was big$$$$ to replace the stuff THEY damaged and after a week or two Mark said just send me the damaged stuff and i'll make it right and that's what he did.

All my dealings over the years with him have allways been good and a good buddy of mine has bought alot of stuff from him without any prob's.

Maybe he had a off day when you had your bad encounter with him.

We just got there new catalog and yes he just raised his prices this fall.

But it's like swervin use to say YA GET WHAT YA PAY FOR!

Re: S&P prices, way too high!?!

Can't argue that, I got the TPI setup that I am working on from a guy that had it sent to them almost 10 years ago and they went back through it to check everything out. The TPI was still in their box, it had never been installed. They want to do a good job for their customers. Everyone can have a bad day and hopefully we, the everyone, can get through it.

I am not really out to try to beat on Mark because I know in general he does a lot of good for a lot of people. I will throw a warning out that you should always make sure you get "exactly" what you ordered.

Re: S&P prices, way too high!?!

I have had several of S&P parts before. Yes they are expensive but nobody else makes some of the parts. And most of the guys who buy things from them don't worry about the prices either.

Try ZOOPS for engine brackets. I have had good luck with them and they are usually cheaper. And several dealers stock or drop-ship their products. I bought an LT-1 engine bracket kit as well as their Type 2 Power steering brackets, PS Reservoir and was very satisfied with the quality and the instructions!

I recently have been looking for info on an LS-1 swap and have gained a ton of free "lernin" off of their website, the DVD they send with new catalogs, etc.

Re: S&P prices, way too high!?!

I definitely am looking into dofferent sources for the LS1 enigne for my 68. The S&P people are really good to talk to and they are helpful (one on one).

The 3 days I was down at their place of business, it was a sight to see at 4:30 everyday, UPS sends an empty truck to their building and they usually fill it full with merchandise for shipping. They try to make everything get out as soon as possible. They had Chevrolet drop ship my camaro brackets straight from the dealer supply warehouse.
