Stretched Wheel openings
Here's an alternative to just trimming - the wheel opening are stretched to fit bigger tires...
I've seen this rig in person and they did a good job. I actually didn't even notice the mod at first. Linky

Re: Stretched Wheel openings
Did they just splice a piece of another wheel opening in there? Cut the arch in the center and slide 1-2-3" piece in it? That would work and look better than just cutting the wheel well out.

Re: Stretched Wheel openings
That's actually pretty clean looking. I'm NOT a fan of cutting/hacking/chopping fenders, so I'd opt to do something like that instead.
How'd they do it, do you know? Adam

Re: Stretched Wheel openings
Cut/grind/weld/fill/sand/paint.
Lots of time/energy/effort and skill went in to pulling it off. Certainly one of the cleaner ways of doing it. Those side pipes must let alot of exhaust smell in though. Last edited by vtblazer; 10-25-2006 at 03:35 PM. |

Re: Stretched Wheel openings
I was just noticing in that last picture that he's got those side pipes PLUS another tailpipe that exits the rear corner.

Re: Stretched Wheel openings
I emailed the seller today asking him what was involved in doing that, and here's what he said:
"after measuring about a million times,i took it to a body-man to cut, the whole bodyline had to be cut off seperated in midle relocated welded. very time consuming and very expensive&yes it does have the inner fenderwells in place.the people that have bid so far don`t realize the cost involved, i have 10grand in body work and 10 more in new axels. bids must go up alot or i will just keep it. thank-you for noticing " That's a lot of money in body work!!

Re: Stretched Wheel openings
I would guess he has the diverter things on(can't think of what they are called). This way he can run street legal exhaust and straight headers with the flip of a switch.

Re: Stretched Wheel openings
Those wheelwells are pretty much what I am planning on doing. I'll be sure to snap some pics when it comes to cut off wheel time...

Re: Stretched Wheel openings
Notice the lower diamond plating?
They used it to avoid having to deal with the lower body line detail. What if someone made a fender with a wheel well opening that was 3" taller and 4" wider yet still looked stock? |

Re: Stretched Wheel openings
Sure is a great way to help keep the center of gravity low (and that is coming from an idiot that has about 10" of lift on his 69)
Really looks good - is that going to be a custom item you will offer?

Re: Stretched Wheel openings
That is what I was thinking VT, what 10 grand to stretch the wheel openings, they just cut them off wider and covered with diamond plate.

No build pics available, sorry.

Re: Stretched Wheel openings
Nice Work There VT!
Body Work Is Exspensive But Even With Those Fender Mods And Diamond Plate I Wouldn't Think He Really Has 10,000 In Body Work...I Could Be Wrong Tho.
