Should I sell truck with or without motor?
I have a 72 jimmy that I dont have the time, space, or money to tackle the body work on. It needs all the usual body work problems, floors, rockers, windshield frame, etc. The problem is I just put a new motor in it that is worth much more than the rest of the truck. I would be happy to keep the motor, but im worried that the truck would be worth nothing without it, and I would be forced to part out what i could and scrap the majority of it, the only parts worth anything would be the single wall top, uninstalled s&w cage, and rest of drive train. I have never sold or parted out a vehicle, so I have no idea where even to begin, any advice would be greatly appreaciated.

I think you have answered your own question. The only way to sell the body is to put a good engine in it. Figure your engine and add what you think you could get out of the good body parts and give it a shot. That way you are not stuck doing a lot of work taking it apart and having an eyesore to be fussed at about. If it don't sell then do it the hard way.

If you part it, you will most likely end up with an empty shell that you will need to figure out how to haul to the scrap yard.

Re: Should I sell truck with or without motor?
If you like the powerplant, keep the powerplant. Last time I was in your position, I bought a $50 305, pinned it under the hood and sold the truck for $800, keeping my engine. The guy got a handpainted rust bucket (50 foot rule appearance) but it passed smog with grace, hauled azz and had a disc brake front end to boot. We later found the hulk at the local wrecking yard sans all the unseen goodies. Heck, ya never know who wants what in this world...your truck may be just the ticket for the next lucky buyer! Ever-the-optomist-me.

Re: Should I sell truck with or without motor?
Im currently in Ohio, but the truck is in storage in Flint Michigan, and I wont be back to Flint until January.
The truck looks descent from 20 ft but the paint is beat, but the outside panels should all be usable, the interior is completely stripped except for the dash and door panels, and i have no original interior parts. I have no interior pictures but pretty much the whole floor needs redone. Here are some pics, hopefully it works ive never tried it before. |

BTW Wingman, my two cents is to throw an engine in it (the 305 was a good suggestion) cuz it's easier to sell a truck than a project. IMO. Please feel free to subscribe and post this on the Parts Board.
