Health Hazard Tools
I bought a set of Stainless Steel Dial Calipers from KOI (savage auto parts). I was looking at the back of the package and there is a health hazard about lead. Warning this product contains lead, a chemical known to cause cancer and birth defects, or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling. Naturally I found this out after I had already been looking over the tool and using it.
Its from Performance Tool part # W80151. How serious of a risk is this and why does it contain lead? You would think something like this wouldn't be sold to the public.  Any thoughts on this?

I bought a creeper a while back & there was a label on the bottom that said the head cushion had something in it that causes cancer in california. I live in Iowa so it doesnt apply to me, I pealed the label off. I think everything you buy or in the near future everything will have a warning label of some sort. If it gets to you too much, you can send it to me. Im a machinist & use dial calipers everyday. Solder has lead in it too. I use that a lot as well...

there was/is a lawn sprinlker at home depot that had a warning that said "in the state of california, this product is know to caus cancer, birth defects, bla bla" now i was thinking it was becaus of the plastic that it was made out of, but maybe they were talking about the water that comes out of it, we may never know.

Might be the water
 Technially, we add Flouride to water and toothpaste, and Flouride might keep your teeth strong and free of cavity, but it's also a known carcinogen. And we wonder why our nation gets cancer more than many others

it all just comes down to the removal of liability. if the company has a disclamer, it transfers the liability to the user.

We have a dart board that has that warning for the darts, if you ask my OCD brother he will tell you to wash your hands after every use and don't stick it in your mouth, but if you are sticking dial calipers in your mouth you probably have more issues than we can cover here. Most of the time I just ignore those, of course if I had listened to some of them in the past I probably wouldn't have half injuries that I have recieved.

My ex-wife didn't have a warning label and I'm pretty sure I checked everywhere. Most expensive thing I ever bought and it malfunctioned spectacularly.

I dated a few "defective" models. I brought 'em all back and traded 'em in, I even kicked one to the curb! I finally got me one of them "Toyota" models
(dependable and reliable, but costs a lot to buy and maintain!)

Maybe made in china w/ lead paint. I know there's Christmas Tree ornaments being pulled off the shelves due to lead paint on the hangings.

You just know some idiot had to try that or there would not have been a any reason to put a warning against it.And who would have ever thought of that to warn against?

I like the warning on the silicon gel packs that are in electronics packaging to keep things dry --

I guess I got some label shock when I had seen that. It doesn't make me feel any better about using it. But I will use it if I need to measure something. I don't really know anyone that really washes there hands all the time after using say a screwdriver or something not dirty. But I guess its something I will have to start if I'm using the calipers. It not really a convenience to do witch it why I am guessing most don't.
