LS1 headers that fit

After 3 sets of headers I have finally found some that fit. The only thing they are close to is the start and block. Due to such a tight fit you can only use a 2" collector (which I dont like). The headers are hooker headers block huggers for the ls1's. I believe these are as close as we are going to get using a production header.

Re: Found Holy Grail (LS1 headers that fit)

Blazerboy I bought the Stainless Works header for an LS1 with a Wayne Due frame and they fit nice. The only 2 small problems that I had was it put the connection to the collectors right in the middle of my cross member. I'm having 4 1/2" cut off of them to fix the problem but I'm guessing they could do this if you asked ahead of time since they fab them to order. I'm using 3" collectors and the side of the tube will also brush the crossmember support but if I'd gone with 2 1/2" I'd be fine.

I can take some pics if your interested, I haven't had them cut yet so you could see what they look like.

Re: Found Holy Grail (LS1 headers that fit)

If the corvette exhaust manifolds fit, would headers for a corvette work? They'd have to clear the same area....?? Did you try those?

Sanderson is supposed to be working on a set specifically made for the 67-72 trucks.

Re: Found Holy Grail (LS1 headers that fit)

I didnt try the corvette ones. I tried some for a truck and midified bigblock headers. The stainless works look nice but I couldnt put out that kind of money for a set. The hookers were only $195 so I figured they were worth a try. And the headers currently available from sanderson dont look like they would fit. The collector is about1-2" further back than the hookers and that would put it right on the starter.

Read my link about my 69 Burb. There's a pretty good discussion in there on headers and manifolds.

Just for reference, you can get them at Street & Performance too. Here's mine that I was checking for fit on my mower..

N2TRUX or anyone else actually fit these on an engine in a truck yet? The S&Ps look promising except for the possible mount intereference.

Re: Found Holy Grail (LS1 headers that fit)

The S&P headers worked just fine. For point of referrence, the LS1 was mounted using S&P adapter plates. I had no clearence issues at all on the headers. I did have to notch my frame for the a/c compressor because I wanted to run the stock F-body brackets.

Now I have a new front clip custom fabbed by Stoked Out Specialties...

Re: Found Holy Grail (LS1 headers that fit)

Was this with the 73-87 style 'clamshell' mounts? I will be using these in my '72. I thought the S&P plates were for the earlier style mounts.
