Lap belts to shoulder belts?

Has anyone tried using the newer (73+-up) shoulder seatbelts using the same bolt holes that are already in the truck?

Where are you talking about securing the shoulder belt?

Glad to hear there's an existing swap. Do they have the same GM logo?

Do the base retractors just bolt up to the existing holes for the lapbelt retractors near the door and the shoulder mounted swivel just attaches to the plugged/threaded holes in the upper inside corners of the cab?

Are the bolts that attach at the top swivel point the same size on the s-10 as the threads in the nuts in the cab?

Did you have to modify anything?

Has anyone used some from a full-size GM Truck?

Thanks!

Re: Lap belts to shoulder belts?

local salvage yard would be cheaper than a dealer.

Re: Lap belts to shoulder belts?

Gman69 got me a set of belts out the junk yard for $20. Not sure what the dealer gets but I bet it is high.

yank,
Are they retractable shoulder belts?
Did Gman69 say what they were in before?
I'm looking for a bolt-in swap I can find at salvage that will replace my lap belts with retractable shoulder belts but I want a finished look that doesn't require any drilling/re-locating. So far, I've been told s-10's do, but I looked at a 85 today and it looks like where the retractor mounts at the base near the door is odd (I wasn't driving the truck-so I couldn't compare). The retractor mounts to the pillar behind the seat, and from what I could tell was mounted sideways. The hole in the floor of the '68 is lower and facing the other way. Maybe you could swap sides when you mount them?
I'm just looking for suggestions.
Chris

Re: Lap belts to shoulder belts?

What ever came of this thread, lap belts scare the heck out of me and I want shoulder belts.

Are there retractables that work or do I need to go to the non-retract with the chrome aircraft buckles?

Re: Lap belts to shoulder belts?

I used the shoulder setup from a 84 suburban front seat. I'm thinking all full size gm trucks from that era will work. All I did was bend the mounting bracket to the angle of the floor. Then they just bolted right in. Board member "centless" did the same thing on his truck. Gave me that idea. Works great....

Re: Lap belts to shoulder belts?

I got mine and I think Yank has same ones, from the 88-98 Silverado/C1500. They work great, although finding them in a yard maybe difficult as most yards won't sell them to you. I think they are not supposed to resell/used them becuase of some law. Most places I know, they cut them up as the vehicles arrive. And yes, the dealer wants ALLOT for them.
