Re: better booster

I installed a newer "pancake" style booster on my truck (don't know if that is the right description). It's not tiny but it is a lot more compact than the factory boosters with the coupler attached to them. The brackets are a lot shorter and the booster itself is only 3 inches thick.

There are some more pics and info on this thread.

Re: better booster

Does that master cylinder not lead to a proportioning valve? Is there a setup we can use with no separate proportioning valve..or one built in?

I really do not prefer that proportioning valve hanging out there in the air...it really is ugly...functional but ugly.

Re: better booster

I didn't really care for the "factory" position for the proportioning valve either so I built a bracket and mounted it on the inner fender below the master cylinder.

I may move it again and mount it on the cross member like in the 73-87 trucks.

Re: better booster

Not tryin to hijack you're thread but I have a question......since I've already replaced the master cylinder on my 71 does this mean I have to get the booster to match the application or can I get a different one?

Re: better booster

I had to do a little fabbing but I am using a booster from a early 80s on mine. I mounted the combo valve on the forward Xmember (under radiator)

Re: better booster

Guess my question is do certain master cylinders only work with certain boosters? I put a new stock MS on my 71 and now I need a booster. Can I get one from a 3/4 or 1 ton or do I need one for a 1/2 ton so I don't need to change out the MS again?

Re: better booster

Theres a shop here north of Columbus called Right Stuff Detailing, and they make nice brake booster and master cylinders that are show quality, and you can get them for low profile apps., they also do alot of other stuff. If you want brake lines, that make them all for 67-72s. So I would give them a look over, their site doesnt have any pics, but if you get their catalog is plenty of pictures and information in there.
