Looking for new engine
Hello,
I am looking at replacing my 402 in my 72 truck at the moment and I am wanting to find a crate engine BB with 400 to 450 horses and low miles. Basically I want to get rid of the new engine price. I have looked at the crate home page (Mark V and VI engines) and they are outrageously high. It is important however for the engine to be fully assemble so swapping out the old with the new is quick. Thanks ~ Shawn this will probably be moved to the parts section huh?

`Just bulid what you have in mind. If you buy it from someone else, it is possible that they bought it new and assembled from someone else and payed the new price, and will pass it on to you for more than you can build one. You can build a 475hp stroker motor for around 3000. HP cost money, anything over 300hp is gonna cost you. Ther is no way around it.

I am willing to spend up to 4K. If you have priced new crate BB you will see most are around 7K...too much. I am seperated at the time so I lost my garage and all of my tools so I can not build the engine I want due to logistics.
The question still stands.

Shawn I think Greg (gregsplace) probably has some good cores 396s, 402s, maybe a 454 or two. Maybe he would consider building you a mild BB. I wouldn't think it would take that much to build one to 1hp per CID. You might even check with some of the local engine machine shops. They may of had some "no show" customers with all the layoffs going on. Sometimes you can get a heck of a deal on these if the shop is just looking to recover their investment. Are you still on the ABL program?

That is a good idea stroker. I can give Jerries a call and the speed shop here in town. I am still at Boeing but I am in the BCS building on 1st shift now. We are doing the 757 production line transfer from Renton, WA to Wichita. Not a lot of fun but a job! We need to hook up and have a beer sometime.
