making a short bed out of the actual bed

i called every junk yard, auto dismantaler, pick a part i can think of and have asked so many different people if they have a bed out of a SWB and all i found was one short stepside with a wood floor, and it was VERY badly rusted (the guy wanted 500 for it) so my question is this has anybody cut a bed into a short bed? and if so how much do i take out?, and where?

There are a few threads on here just on that subject. You can also buy a new one from Goodmark Industries. I'm sure someone else will join in with a link to the artical or you can look in the tech section.

Re: making a short bed out of the actual bed

check the one out in the parts for sale section. transportation will be tough. but the price on that bed should allow for some of the cost. pkj

Re: making a short bed out of the actual bed

can somebody do some measurments for me? i need the distance from the front of the bed to the front of the fender, and the distance from the back of the bed to the back of the fender, and the total length of the bed. i was thinking about different ways to cut the bed to make the straightest cuts as possable and one guy on the post that raggedjim showed me said that he used a skill saw... i know that you can make verry straight clean cuts with a skill saw but i dont want the saw to bind up and kick back, would a carbine blade make a clean cut?

Re: making a short bed out of the actual bed

Do a search in this forum. I know there was a thread on it with measurements and instructions. You need to use a composition metal cutting blade in the skilsaw. You should be able to get them at a hardware store.

Here are a couple of threads.....
