68 C-30 wrecker questions

Just bought a 68 wrecker close to home , cheap, complete and runs.
I checked out the spid and it had dual wheel conversion on it.
It has roof mounted clearance lights but they aren't hockey puck style, factory.
I was on the road as soon as the guy called me. I had been trying to get ahold of him since yesterday.
Of course I got there after dark and it was raining hard.
Bought it any way, just wondering about 68 C-30's in general , suggestions, advice
like can I use a complete 72 3/4 disc set up and just get dual rear wheel front rotors?
what differences from the 1/2 , 3/4 trucks to a 1-Ton.
How do i become a member of the 1_ton club?
LOL
Thanks,
Steve

Here's my 68 marker lights, they are on my sticker but someone on here said they aren't stock. Still trying to confirm that one...

I can't remember what the 68 came with...the hockey pucks were 69 and 70 only.

Re: 68 C-30 wrecker questions

All new ground for me. Considering the rain and being dark, they look like yours MS.
i will post some pix when I pick it up this Sat.
I was going to post the link to the Craigs listing but he already removed it.
I was first to get there, ahead of over 30 people!
It will be the first truck i have bought older than 1975 that I will be able to drive home except for one. A nice change..........

Re: 68 C-30 wrecker questions

Those lights were stock on trucks from 1960? till 1968, the hockey pucks were on 1969's and some 1970's like Longhorn Man said. I drove a 1967 Chevy c60 grain truck for awhile that had the chrome lights and I saw a 1968 C10 at the junkyard that had 'em, the lights were gone but they were listed on the glovebox. I found this light and a separate gasket and lens under the seat, it has Yankee 76 stamped in the housing. The lenses are a little faded with a white tint.

Re: 68 C-30 wrecker questions

here is a little better pick of mine. There is a 68 wrecker in my town that is still in service. I need to sneak over and get some pics of it too. His hood is missing the H & V letters ...hmmm I just happen to have extra, sounds like a new friendship with a local mechanic is brewing!

Re: 68 C-30 wrecker questions

My 67 and all the 73-77 trucks I have are like the ones pictured above. I have never owned one with the hockey puck lights.

Re: 68 C-30 wrecker questions

For some reason I missed the 69-70 part of the hockey puck threads. I was curious.
I will have pix and better able to read the spid. It has full chrome on the cab and hood.
Does anybody know what the dually conversion option entails.
Thanks,
Steve
