autometer fuel gauge
Need your help. I bought this whole new instrument cluster and can't figure out how to connect the fuel gauge. From the cluster of wires. I have 2 tan and 1 pink wire. The pink wire is hot when I turn the ignition on. My gauge...has 3 connections. A ground, ignition and sender. I connect the ground to ground, pink to ignition and the tan (single and together) to the sender. The moment I turn the key to "ON"...the gauge goes all the way to the right and BEYOND "F". I have no clue what's going on or if my gauge is broken. Any ideas????

I believe the ground wire needs to go from the gauge to the fuel tank. That is how I have my Autometer gauge wired.

Do you have the correct sending unit? If it is a different Ohmage than required by the gauge, it will cause an incorrect reading.

try this,,,
ground to ground pink wire to ignition tan wire to sender and just be aware that connecting the tgnition wire directly to your sender could cook it

That's how I have it connected, but the gauge goes WAY beyond the full "F" mark and I know my tank isn't full.

If you look at your fuse block, there is a connecter there from the fuel sender. It is a single wire that passes through the firewall by itself and plugs into the fuse block. Unhook it and run a short length of wire up to your guage. If you can't find it I can take a pic later for you. Also becarefull of the "trial and error" method, the autometer fuel guages have a warning about hooking them up wrong.
