So I got my new hood springs, and I' ve looked in my shop manual, but I cant find how to replace the spring. Any tips?

first prop the hood up with a stick or something.. Then you can loosen the front bolt on the hindge and remove the rear bolt and the hinge should move close enough to take the spring off and put one back on.. Mark the location of the hinge first so you can put it back where it was so the hood will stay lined up...

The way I installed/removed mine is to use a piece of nylon rope to stretch them. Hook one end and use the rope to pull the other on. Make sure you dont use something that will break. Dont know how much damage it will do, but I dont think it would be pretty.

My assembly manual actually showed a picture/part number for the spring remover. I looked like a hay hook. Basically shaped like a "J" with a handle on the end.

OH look I am quoting myself... I don't think this will work with the hood on. You might have to do it the hard way with some good rope and a handle. Either way be carful is all...

Similar to the rope trick a couple of other guys have posted, wrap a rag or small towal onto the end of the spring and wrap it around your hand. Stand on one end of the hinge and pull.

Using a rag or something soft is a good way to replace the spring as it will not damage any paint or other finish you have on your hinges and springs.

rope tricked worked great !!!, The springs came of easy. But..... the new springs didnt go on . I needed some one to " convince" them in to the slot. Oh well there is always tomorow.

yeah the side that i could use my right hand on went like butter, the one i had to use my left hand was a little harder.
