1406 Edel. With 700R?

Okay folks, trucks in my signiture are about to get torn apart. The K5 is about to receive the recently rebuilt 350 out of my C10, The motor has Edelbrock performer intake and a 1406 Carb. But the K5 it is going into has a 700r4. I'm not certain, but I remember reading somewhere I'd need something to adapt the TV cable from the 700r to the Edelbrock carb. I'm also wanting to add headers, see my other post below, but I cannot find a set that lists it works for my application(I'm looking for shorties) If anyone could let me know what I need I'd greatly appreciate it. edelbrock website should have the info for the tv cable bracket, just call them, they can tell you over the phone, what part# and all.
Headers? Heck, go to summitracing.com, put in your year /model vehicle, search for headers, a bunch will come up. Take that info, and google for some better prices...

There are aftermarket kits for mounting the TV cable, most parts stores that sell the "Performance Corner" stuff has them. I made my own brackets when I changed to the 700 trannies. The IMPORTANT thing to deal with is the positioning of the cable so that it is fully closed when the throttle is closed and that it extends fully when the throttle is full open. I took some light metal and made a bracket that would hold the throttle cable on top and then made a piece for the TV cable to weld on the bottom. I set it up on a trial and error test until I had the right spot and then welded it solid. My bracket mounts on the driver's side rear carb mount bolt and has a pin welded to it to fit into the other hole on the carb base (this keeps the bracket from moving on the carb base). Once I had then finished and smoothed, I had them powder coated.

Hi you need the geometry corrector for that carb to be used with 700r4 and Edelbrock sells em plus others.

Are you referring to the bracket that mounts onto the throttle linkage for a kickdown on an auto tranny or are you talking about the actual mounting bracket? The important thing is to get a bracket that will hold the tranny cable base at the right distance from the throttle connection, so that the TV cable is not engaged at all times. From that point it is all basics. As I stated before, there are brackets available all over for this situation,

EDELBROCK lists #8030 as semi-universal adjustable throttle/cruise/kickdown bracket for 700R4. As far as headers, you might look into shorty style to fit 68 Camaro or for 92 and up trucks. Just guessing. Both are popular for a lot of weird engine swaps.

Well for now, my throttle is kinda Jerry Rigged on there to make it work. It is currently using a th350, but if this motor makes it into the K5 with a 700r. I'm gonna need to know what bracket to use to hold the TV cable I guess in the right position for the tranny. Hell I dont even know what it does, guessing kinda like the kickdown on my 350? Also, I'm probably going to need the ball thing that goes onto the throttle arm on the carb. Doesnt seem like that is on there either. Should I just call up Edelbrock?

The Edelbrock #8030 works on TH-350 too. Call Edelbrock tech, good peeps.

I was curious about this too and emailed Edelbrock. They replied that you need a bracket (part # HP8620 from summit) to make the 700R work with the 1406. They want $40 for the dang thing. Must be made out of gold

That is what you will need to hook up the TV cable on your Edelbrock, carb. Yes, they want a large amount of money for it, but they did all of the engineering on it for you and it is a straight bolt on and connection.

HOWEVER: if you purchase the Edelbrock item #1484 (Summit # edl-1484) it will do the same thing for you (when you install a Summit # edl-8018 Auto trans. Kick down stud on the bottom hole of the #1484 bracket) which would allow for the Cruise Control to work on the carb also. The #1484 sells for $16.88 and the #8018 sells for $4.88 through Summit Racing. I have set up numerous motors with this set up and it works fine. That would be cheaper than the $40 dollars for the kickdown bracket by itself.
