You must crush, the crush sleeve enough to preload the bearings. If they are at "O" torque they will be loose after about 500 miles of break-in and the .006 backlash will go away.

Remove the pinion nut and wipe some grease on the washer face and the nut and threads. Hammer with the air gun until you get the inch pounds of torque. If it gets to tight, take the smallest ball peen hammer and insert the ball end into the depressed area on the end of the pinion and strike with a BFH, a brass dead blow hammer works best. Repeat until the crush sleeve relaxes. Good Luck!!!
