late model beds
Hey.. what do you all think a late model stepside bed (88-98) would look like on a 73-87, compared to the original stepside bed? Either opinions or even better, pictures, would be great! If a late model bed looks decent I'd probably go with that as nothing was salvageable from the original stepside, and since they're impossible to find around here for a decent price, a newer one would actually be a lot cheaper and easier to get..

I think alot of the guys will agree with me. On a '73-'87 the newer style beds, or for that matter any body pieces, DO NOT look good.
The '88-'98 stepside beds flow alot better on a '67-'72. JMO

I recently saw one here in San Antonio. I did not think it looked good at all, and I like the way they look on earlier trucks. Nothing matched up, so it looked reallu out of place.

yeah, i was thinkin about it trying to put together a front clip from an 88-98 but i ditched that idea because everyone has those trucks and the fact that our trucks have that kinda crease in them the the 88-98 dont and makes the body panels really hard to match up.

Well, being one who has seen late model beds on early trucks, don't do it. It looks like crap. I've seen 67-72's and 73-87's with late model sport side beds and it looks bad. Biggest thing that causes this is they don't line up right with the cab, especially on our body styles.
I'm not a big fan of trying to make our trucks look like a later model. If I wanted a later model, I would just buy one. Leave ours looking like 73-87's.

Same here. I like the 73-87 better with the "original" look rather than something later. Yes I have upgraded with a new steering wheel from a newer model but that's detailing rather than all out body chopping. I've also seen the 67-72 with newer beds. Yes the lines flow better but give me one with a LWB and straight trim down the side over a newer bed any day.
