one ton axles - compatible with 3/4 ton?
Hi guys. I bought a 79 GMC SRW one ton, and wonder if I can use the blocks from the rear and the front springs in my 87 V20 (with late 70s frame and running gear?). Are the one ton axles different, I have heard they are spaced differently, and the spring pads are in different locations (both front and rear or rear only?). I think the front springs are 4 inch lift (or rearched). Would the front axle (dana 60) simply bolt in to the 3/4 ton? Thanks very much for any help!

Re: one ton axles - compatible with 3/4 ton?
You are right, spring spacing in the rear on a one ton is different. Doesn't mean the blocks wont swap. The front springs are the same (lengthwise) and should also bolt in. The D60 is a bolt in, but you do need to make sure you take the D60 spring plates too. To swap the one ton 14b rear axle you would have to move the spring mounts on the axle to the 3/4 ton position. Then again if you have a V20 you shouldn't have to swap as you probably already have a 14b in there.

Re: one ton axles - compatible with 3/4 ton?
Hi Zoom, thanks for the info. I just have to count the teeth on the gears to see if what I have matches. I am also trying to sell the Dana 60, so if it doesn't go, I will use it. Thanks very much!
