firewall differences from linkage to cable.

so im smoothing the firewall on my 68 with a throttle linkage.. im not a big fan of the linkages and would like to change it to a cable.. i realize theres a thread on it, but thats just retrofitting and fabbing a cable to fit more or less... i was wondering if it would even be feasible to cut a chunk of a cable firewall out and weld it in to mine.. or if mine already has the necesarry mounting points.. i just have to open them up... it would also help me if anyone posted pics of their smooth looking cable setup.
also i know that 71-72 comes standard with cable, but was it availavle on 69-70? (ill be getting a parts truck soon and i think its a 69-70)

thanks for all the help!
-Mike

Re: firewall differences from linkage to cable.

You can mount the 71-2 pedal assy to the earlier firewall. Drill mounting holes and cable hole...then fill the holes left over from linkage setup. The Lokar cable works even better than the OEM, with the 71-2 pedal.

Re: firewall differences from linkage to cable.

Here are some pics how I did it. You can see the relationship from the original pedal location for the rod style. Once mounted the new pedal assembly you have to tweak the upper part of the pedal assembly so it doesn’t hit the hump on the side and you pretty much have to locate the cable eye in the flattest area possible, then drill from the inside out a small hole using the cable hole on the pedal as a guide Then I used a die grinder to make the square hole.

That wasn't me superman, I remember the thread your talking about, mine is very similar just the location is a little different. I tried to search for the thread for you, but I could not find it. If there is anything else I can help with let me know. All the other pictures I have show just about the same thing. If you need a picture of the cable installed and the carb bracket let me know.
