Colomn to floor shift on a 66

I have a '66 C 10 1/2 with a colomn three speed, and i wanted to convert it to a floor shift. I was wondering how hard it would be to complete. Do i just have to get different linkages and thats it, or do i have to go with a different transmission? Thanks ahead.

Just buy a 3-speed shifter...and follow the instructions. I used a Hurst Indy universal truck shifter...works great.

Well yes I do. My buddy works at the local speed shop. I get everything from him at store cost...and they buy ALOT, so they buy cheap. Do you need one ??

Nothing against big Chief Rocka, but keep the 3 on the tree!

I personally can never get enough of schmuck yuppies looking at at me while I shift on the column going through an intersection. They are like, "hey..... what kind of subversive activity is going on in the old weirdo-truck over there??!? Honey, call the police, I'm sure he is up to no good!".

And I always looked at trucks that have been converted from column to floor shift as knowing they have been --worked on--. Resale value, etc...

Swerve-Driver, i definantly agree with you. The only reason that i wanted to convert to a 3 on the floor was just cause im 17, and ive always wanted to have s stick, and i always thought the motion was so, well, "cool" i guess you could say. My truck doesn't move yet, so once i get it goin i'll run with the three on the tree for a while and then see how it feels. Thanks for all the input guys......Brad

Don't worry there Swerve, no offence taken !!!....Beleive me when i say...."I MUCH RATHER OF HAD THE TREE SHIFTER !!!!"

Like I mentioned in other posts, the previous owner removed the tree, mutilated the floor, and install an old shifter that was binding. So far know, I had to get it rolling, so my buddy hooked me up with the Hurst.

I just mentioned, that it works great, He was just asking who on here has done this.

When I was 14, my brother-n-law taught me how to drive a manual...and that lesson was in a '60 F-100 (oopps can I say that here?)and I loved it..never will forget it either !!!! Someday, I'll replace the column, linkage, and floor pan and bring it back to stock !!

That's an idea...you want to trade your stock stuff for mine ??

Anyway.........

I looked for a truck for just shy of 10 years before finally buying my '66 and am happy with it- as is!

You look like you are doing fine with your rig- it is coming along nicely and sounds like you are bringing it back from the dead, so to speak.

I think there is alot to be said for being able to go to a drive-in car show or whatever and talk intelligently about all the mods and details done to your truck- it all comes natural when you have done the work- as you have.

You hit a good point right on the head- you found something that works (floor shift) and got it back on the road. I bet there are a ton of these rigs and similar ones (including old F*rds, which can be pretty cool in their own right) molding away under tarps in garages while the owners await the time to begin or complete the elusive "complete restoration". The time is hard to come by, as many can attest.

Thanks eberybody. Ive decided ofr the time being that i would stick with the 3 on the tree. I ve just finished installing the Stainless Steel brake lines and am trying to repair the parking break. I just busted the adjuster a few days ago and am waiting for the new one to arrive. All i have left to do is finish the engine wiring harness and i should be able to start it up, and hopefully stop. Still much more to go, thanks again
