Rear end and posi
I have a 70 longbed with coil spring and sinle lunger. I am looking for a 12 bolt with 3:73 rear end. Someone offered me a 73, 10 bolt , rear end with leaf springs and 3:73 posi at a good price. Will this fit, without any major modifications. What might the mods be, and what might the cons be to the project.

You will need to get a rear end mount set for the controll arm trucks and an adlustable pan hard bar set for it also. You will have to cut the mounts off of the 73 rear then weld the new ones on in their spots making sure to center the rear and get the correct 2 deg. pinion angle befor you weld it. Outside of the 12 bolt being a better rear end, (stronger), the 73 will take some mods to install. The shock mounts are different and adapting the leaf spring rear end to a trailing arms setup could be a little more serious. I would post on the parts board for a ring and pinion and then buy a new posi unit if it were me.
Otherwise, sometimes a complete rear end is available with posi's but most need rebuilding anyway and the rebuilding cost can equal the cost of a new one. Good luck! Jim |

There is a saddle, & track rod kit to put that in, just requires a little welding. You will also have 5 lug axles. let me see if i can find the kit...... http://www.classicperform.com/produc...ersion-Kit.htm

One of our board members had one for sale recently in Georgia for $300 complete. Don't remember the name. I just ordered a new Posi unit from www.tomsdifferentials.com for $280. New bearings and races were an additional $32 plus $18 shipping.
