I have a basic 4 speaker CD player setup in my truck and want to add tweeters. Do I just splice the wires with the front 2 speakers??. Also, does it matter where they are mounted as long as they point to me and a passenger?. I wanted to mount one below my ignition and one below my cigarette lighter and point them upward and angled. Thanks for any advice!

Idealy you would want to use a crossover to separate the high tones from the mids from the lows. Then wire the highs to go to the tweeters, the mids to a mid-bass, and the lows to a subwoofer. Just splicing them in will send lows to the tweeter.

If you can get them, that would be a good idea. Highs (treble) is directional - that is to say it will reflect off of anything. For best sound staging, you want the tweeter to be mounted in a place that will either point at the head of the listener or reflect off of something directly at the head of the listener.

I would run the tweeters off the front channel and the other two speakers off the rear I guess. These days, with amplifiers being so cheap ($80 will get you a nice one) it's hard for me to imagine life without an amplifier. Car stereos just are not even close to being made well enough to power speakers in the first place.

You should run the tweeters in the factory holes for the shoulder seat belts... it is definitely loud.... and you can hear it excellent... no holes required. just a thought. Trevor

the only downside to that is you'd be firing into the back of the head of the listener. I would mount mine one of three places:

In the door pillar (if possible)

In/around/near the defroster vents OR in the center of the dash in the stock 4x6 plate location.

In kick panels at your feet (cross-firing..passenger side fires at driver, driver side fires at passenger). There are some really killer looking kickpanels I've seen at this forum. I have attached some I saved for personal reference.

See, you want them to fire at the head of the person for the high range speakers, but you want to have some distance from their head to give a feeling of "distanct" which is also known as "sound stage" (I think) - emulating the feeling of space. If you got it firing into the back of your ear, the cage of the ear isn't catching it really...and it is going to overpower everything having a tweeter scream in your ear.
