Re: Best diesel setup
one good place to get a doner truck would be if you have a ups or frieto lay out let near you that sells there old truck . most of them ether have the 6bt in them or a 4bt in them and most are backed by a allison auto . i hear that you can pick them up for around 2k running and then sell off the rest of the truck for scrap and make back around 1k .

Re: Best diesel setup
Hey TP from Cntl PA, You sure know alot about diesel motors. Stealing a thread here, but On the cummins 5.9 TD, I was told you don't have to bore these motors when rebuilt. I was told that they have replacable sleeves??? Do you know if this is true.
That was one reason way I bought my truck because I am planning on keeping it along time. Other than the weak transmission NV4500 I have had no trouble so far. 178,000 |

Only small Cummins I get to play with is mine. Most of the other small Diesels are IH, Case(Pre CDC), Perkins. Being around large Cat, Detroits, and Cummins the most. I am not a diesel expert by any stretch of the imagination, just a stupid farmer who was brought up smelling Diesel smoke, Maybe that is what effected my memory

Re: Best diesel setup
Here is a great conversion IMO. I couldn't imagine a 6BT with a REAL transmission! That must a great thing to pull with!http://users.frii.com/cybrrngr/coolwheels/ronsavage/

Re: Best diesel setup
HHMMMMMMMM.........I'd prefer a Duramax just because its associated with Chevy from the factory but it sounds like the 5.9 Cummins is more plentiful in the boneyards and has huge aftermarket support. A 5.9 into a mid 70's 3/4 or one ton Chevy=
