Angry Off topic, buick help

Ok fellas lets see if anyone can help me out on this one. A girl at school has a 1985 Buick Park Avenue with like 200,000 miles on it. The car isn't in too bad of shape but has a little trouble at idle and whe nu put it into drive from park sometimes the idle drops so low that it stalls. The car is fuel injected. Anything that I can do to make it run a little smoother ? Just so she can get a little more life out of it ? CHEAP also.... Thats a big key here. haha It is kinda tapping like it is low on oil but it isn't. Any ideas ? One last question. Once you shut the car off it makes a noise after a few seconds like a electric pump of some sort or something ? Any idea what this noise is. Thanks a ton Cliff

The resistance on each injector should be around 12-13 ohms. Give or take 1.5 ohms. That is a easy way to start. Worded on a Century 3.3L with simalir problems, but at 250,000 miles. Also, if 2 injectors are bad, the car will start and die, start and die.....

Couple of things to check...
Is the air filter box in one peice? These were terrible about the top seperating from the box. This disturbs the air flow pattern into the Mass Air Flow meter and will cause unstable idle. Also the MAF were very prone to going bad. Lightly tap on the MAF, if the idle changes drasticly or even dies, chances are the MAF is bad.

While your checking all of this, inspect the throttle body and plate. Any sign of carbon/varnish buildup? Clean it!

Does the problem with the key off, sound like a airpump running?
The leveling system will run for up to 1 minute after the key is turned off if there is a leak. Best thing to do is disable it, install regular shocks. This system is only supplimental, not manditory.

I know this sounds a little like "voodoo" magic out of a can - but
Get a can of "SeaFoam" and put it in the gas tank.
Won't help the leveling stuff, but it "might" help keep the car running. Plus - it's Cheap.
