My sixty-nine fleet had an H.E.I. on it when I got it and the truck runs decent for the most part. Sometimes though, it idles really rough and almost acts like it's misfiring. I got to checking around and noticed that the distributor lead was wired to the old resistor-type wire used for the older distributor. I know that these high energy ignitions require high voltage so shouldn't the new distributor be wired differently? If so, how? Thanx.

Yes, You don't want to wire your HEI to a resister wire. I always run a 10 Gauge wire from the fuse panel. You need to pick a terminal that is only hot when the ignition is on. Then I always put a 20 amp fuse in line for it also. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Yes, you'll need to run a new wire. The best way is to run a new wire from the "Unfused Ignition" terminal off of the fuse block. I recommend running 12 gauge wire at the smallest. HEI will require more current than the old style.

I agree with the other 2 on this. You're only getting about 8 volts to your coil right now.

not to step on someones post (sorry Sixnine) but whats the best HEI out there? btw i have an 8 gauge wire....can't risk a meltdown
