drive shaft questions - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

guys im a former vw fan and now im building a 72 chevy truck,what i want to know is did all short bed chevys come with two peice drive shafts or did some of them come with one peice drive shafts. thamks for any help.

Sorry, but in my experience a swb that was originally a 6cyl straight shift would have a one piece driveshaft. Now, all of the swb v8 auto trucks I have seen have come with a two piece shaft.

I believe see ten is correct.

my '68 C10 with 3spd (on tree) still has the stock 1pc driveshaft in it.

My 71 K10(4x4) which had a 292 and a Sm465 4 speed had a one piece drive shaft while a swb w/ a 350/th350 had a 2 piece drive shaft.

OK.......now my question is, I'm repacing a six cyl. W/PG with a 350/TH350. Am I going to be able to use my one piece shaft?

I believe I remember reading somewhere that a short shaft 350 is the same as a Powerglide as far as length and that their driveshafts can be used interchangeably. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

as long as he places the engine in the inline location.
If the TH350 is the short shaft one, then a drive shaft of 4 foot 10 inches (from center of U-joint to center of U-joint) will do the truck on a coil rear SWB with the small block in the correct location and a short shaft TH350.

Good point Andy

the difference in position is 3 1/2" (+or- 1/8"), going from I6 to sb (factory) position. The short turbo & the glide are very close in measure tho, & do have the same slip yolk(I like it when GM makes chit easy!) crazyAl

I've got a 67 Short stepside that was originally a six cylinder and three speed. My 350 and th350 dropped right in close enough to use the original one piece drive shaft.

My truck was originally a 6cyl 3 sped manual with 2 piece drive shaft.
I have a 350 vortec engine with a NV3500 tranny (tranny out of a99 model truck) and I was able to use my original shaft including the yoke. Engine is in the factory V-8 position.

Thanks for the help, guys! I had hoped to place the v-8 in the factory position, but it looks like that'll require a different shaft
