simple question...

Did GM ever offer 6X9 speakers in the rear cab corners and if so are the speaker brackets the same as the 4X10 ones?

Thanks - Jeff

The only GM brackets I have ever seen are 4X10. I believe that the 6X9 brackets that some of the folks (like gchemist) have are aftermarket. If you find a source for the good 6X9 metal brackets, please let me know. All of the shops I talk to have said they are no longer available.

The new guy with the 4WD black stepside on chevytalk said he was able to mount some shallow 6X9s in the 4X10 brackets by redrilling the holes for the speaker. Woodman from Chevytalk was able to cram some large 6X9 speakers in his old brackets by cutting on them a little and relocating the bottom further out to provide clearance for the magnets. It sounds like he is not getting very good bass out of them because the are hanging free rather than being enclosed, though.

Yeah, all your bass will be lost if they're not enclosed. I have some of the standard 6x9 boxes you can buy anywhere stuffed in my corners. You loose alot of your highs and mids putting them behind the seat.

While we are on the topic of speakers. You guys with the sepeakers in the front corner, do they get in the way when you are driving and do they put out any better sound?

If your talking about Kick panels then yes the point the sound right at you and yes they can get in the way.

I dont have kick panels myself

But I will probly get some one day, because my 6x9's in the door are hard to hear with the windows down doing 70.
