how much does this place want? a guy in noble, about 35-40 minutes away from me rebuilds them to stock for $199, and racer's special for $399, and i have heard some good stories about him, before you decide for sure, find people who have used him before

Sweet deal I recently got a 86 shorty for $800 i just put a new 400 sb in mine. That price is way to high to rebuild the th350 I would really check around

Oh I have been checking, and talking to some of the locals.. They know how to charge for things out here in Portland. I wish I was back home in Montana, I could get a fully built one for about $450. But, I'm not so I guess I'm stuck. Most of the calls I've been making have quoted me a bottom number of $1000, and that id for a stock rebuild. So, I guess $700-800 with shift kit is a good price compared to that!

Its cheaper than for you to do a stock rebuild, but with this you'd still need the Torq converter, tv cable and figure something out about a drive shaft and tranny mount, but you could order a 700r from then with a torq converter and find all the other parts in the junkyard, clean 'em up and put it together, Trust me, you'll want that extra gear when gas prices hit 3.00 a gallon and higher again next year

Well, the deal fell through. I went to pay him for it and pick it up this morning at 6:50, and there was another guy there with a car hauler at the same time. The right side that he assured me was undamaged was far from it. The fender and door on the right was pushed in, and this other guy was there hounding in on it. The owner say, " oh, jeez something must've fallen against it in the garage to cause that." Yeah, my ass! something like a telephone pole at 35mph more like... Can't really trust anything else the guy told me about it either at that point, so I let the other guy have it. He just wanted it for a parts rig anyway.

So, turns out this was a big mental circle jerk. Thanks for all of the advice and welcome. Off to find a better candidate, with at least an honest seller...

WTF is the world comming to these days. in the pics it did look really good ahh well. you will find a good one man soon enough these trucks do have one of the highest oif not the highest production numbers of any chevy and cmc trucks. good luck

it happened to me a couplke of times allready , i guess it goes with the territory when buying older cars or trucks , usually i calculate about 250 to500 euro extra for repairs and fixes ontoo the askingprice depending on how the bodywork looks and on if its a car to sell on pull parts off or keep ..... wish i could say there are plenty more but unfortunately shortbed 2 wheel drive pickups are pretty scarse from wat i've heared . , i hope you find another one .
even though it was hit at the side the short wheelbase frame (if still straight) engine and papers of the car would've been worth the money allready for me it would at least if i found it in the netherlands

Yeah, I'm bummed about it. People suck sometimes, thats a fact. Especially lately it seems.

I'm actually going to go look at another truck tomorrow morning, that appears to be in a lot better shape. I'm not holding my breath...

It is a '77 long bed this time, but if it really looks like the picture, and is as described this time, it will still be a sweet ride. WE'LL SEE!

take a pic when its standing in youre driveway and you hold the paperwork if you want a cherry you have to be wlling to sift trough a couple of trucks first , trust me youre lucky to be in the states where the american iron and parts are plentyfull

That is the spirt. some times they just aren't for you. better to take a look and be glad you made the right idea and passed so when you find a ncie one it pays off that more. too bad about the shorty though they are getting harder to find these days. still a nice 77 would be sweet

I looked at trucks for a YEAR before I found one that was relatively unmolested and in my price range. Even then I paid a lot for it ($3500 5½ years ago). This is in Texas, too, where these trucks are everywhere. It just isn't easy to find one that is all there and hasn't had the you-know-what beaten out of it...

slonaker makes another good point. set your expectations to a reasonable price range and then keep an eye out for what you want. be flexible to a certain extent but remeber theyre will always be another one out there. these are were very popular trucks. Also if you can't find what you want local go on the internet or out of state. that is what i did. you are hard presesed to fidn a non rotted truck up here for under 2 times what i paid. Texas is a great place to go for a good solid truck. that or aZ or Navada. good luck on the hunt!!

yep I've been looking for over a year now and just kept saving my money. I've set my price range between $3,500-$5,000. The problem I have now is paying that much for just anything. The going price for what I feel is P.O.S is $2,500. The trucks in this price range still need alot of work. Most of the3,500-5,000 are in alot better shape, and they usually come with rebuilt motors/trannies. Just a couple of weeks ago I ran across a 86 silverado for 3,500. I chickened out because it had a rough cam 454 that was really intended for strip/street action. It still needed 3k+ stall and 3.90+ gears. The body was in much better shape than the 84SWB I own now. It also was lowerd/new wheels&tires already, as well. I'm still kickin myself for not purchasing this truck. I've seen much worse priced at 4,000. I hope to find one before income tax time, because the price usually creep up a bit then. I'm going to try and collect three solid trucks. Two SWB and one LWB. Thats my goal for 07.

If that question is for me yeah I'm gonna get it up and running soon as I get off my lazy butt. I gotta find some upper rad brackets for a 4 row rad. All I have left after that is reinstall my headers and put my accessories back on including the starter, carb, distributor, and fire it to break in the cam.
