1 in a million....
Check this out....
After work I went into Autozone to get some valve cover gaskets cuz its about time to stop the clanking in my solid lifter truck. And guess whos in there, the guy I bought my truck from. He about **** his pants when he saw what I did to it. Other then slamming it, major suspension overhaul, engine tune up, mild body work....with some semi-gloss white primer sealer I havent done much to it. Well we got to talking, I gave him a ride in it. Then he said he had something to give me and to follow him back to his shop. I pull up and one stall is literally covered in 67-72 parts. Doors, beds, guage clusters....all I needed was a cab and I could build 2-3 complete trucks. Unfortunatly thats not what he was gonna give me. He goes and gets a book and shows me pics of what the truck used to look like. From the day he bought it brand new off the show room floor, being a work truck, covered in mud, to being a daily...this truck was used just like a truck. But one pic stood out, the truck had huge-HUGE tow mirrors on it, tow rig bumpers on both ends, and one of them bed camper things (now I know why I had to bondo so many holes on the doors and bed rails) But those werent for me either.... We get to the very last page and he finally said "this is what I wanted to give you" He pulls out the original, tattered, faded build sheet for my truck. We started talking about my plans for it, the route he would go if he still had it. After about 40 minutes we shook hands and parted ways. |

Cool story, thanks for sharing. That's a big part of why I like my vehicles- all the neat people I meet and the stories I hear.

Re: 1 in a million....
I had the build sheet for mine, found it on the backside of the seat while cleaning the interior. I took it out and put it in some "safe" place while living at my mother's house [I was still young enough to live at home then, lol!] anyway AFAIK its still there, but I don't know where that "safe place" is.
Not sure how much value the build sheet would have now though because I have changed the truck alot; lwb to swb, ochre/white to red, 71 clip to 67, and replaced the coils with bags of compressed air... |

Re: 1 in a million....
The guy I bought my ol' heap from also delivers all my parts. He's my UPS guy.
Honest to Gosh ... I give him grief all the time about having to replace every single part on the truck that I bought from him and how he is still making money off of me with shipping fees. He's a good guy. |
