I just bought a 2006 GMC Sierrs Crew Cab. What kinda mods and bolt on have yall messed with. I might put a K&N on it and some exhaust but don't really know what I will do besides drive it bone stock for awhile.

Re: What kind mods have yall done?

I may put a K& N in my stock air box. Beyond that all my mods are for looks...

Re: What kind mods have yall done?

i did a k&n cold air (don't ask me why. it doesn't do anything and cost too much) and dropped it 2/3. looking for some take off factory eight holes in the kansas city area too.

Re: What kind mods have yall done?

My mods were for looks too. Color-matched (white) door handles and billet grille (Chevy).
And then the functional mods, as this is my daily driver/work truck - white bug deflector, molded mud flaps, aluminum running boards, fiberglass topper, carpet bed liner, and molded floor mats.

Re: What kind mods have yall done?

I have heard similar things about the k& N intakes saying they are not worth the money. The fram air boost looked interesting to me but agian i think they don;t dpo enough to justify the money. They do sound cool though. For more preformance a throttle body spacer might do somthing. my cusion has one on his v 6 ranger that made a big diffrance but we do not have one on our 2000 new body style hoe so i can not garentee that it will do anything. Also a cat back exhaust might add som power and definatly a nice rumble. I am also waiting for some more bolt ons for these motors to come along. as of right now the only thing i have found is a supercharger but price is an issue with that one. Since our tahoe is at its 105k tune up we are putting on a set of Taylor 8.5 wires and some other odds and ends which i am hoping might wake it up alittle. beside that a preformace tune or a chip might help. on a side note cold air intakes knock offs are avilible threw ebay at about the thrid of the price. as i can't back up there product i am not going to suggest them but they will most likely diliver the same sound and maybe a slight preformance boost. good luck and if you find anything post it on here to help with futuer mods. it would be cool to have a sticky dedicated to this topic of mods on these newer trucks.

Good luck and welcome to the newer GM trucks

Those are designed for motors that have a throttle body mounted to a manifold in a tradational manner. The 99+ LS based motors have the throttle body mounted at the front of the plenum. It's a whole different deal....

Re: What kind mods have yall done?

Cab emblems and debadged tailgate. GM top rail protectors. Stainless steel tip on stock exhaust. Tires coming. Rolling pretty stock right now. Plans now are to keep stock ride height. At some point I may lift it. Nice truck gump

Re: What kind mods have yall done?

I added fender flares and a brush guard. That's it so far. If I ever get it paid for (hopefully in about 5 months) I want to line the bed (myself) bed rail protectors, the bowtie mudflaps, dual exhaust, and upgrade my door speakers (nothing fancy, but maybe some sony stuff or something will a little more oomph.)

Re: What kind mods have yall done?

The best performance mods you can do to these GenIII engines are first get a tuned PCM. Many guys are using Wait4Me Performance, Westers, Nelson Performance, etc. They will run you anywhere from $75-$500. The next things i'd do are intake/exhaust and a corvette 2nd gear servo. I dont know if you've ever heard of GMFullsize best website around for the NBS trucks..check it out. my user name is the same over there as well! If you do a search over there, you'll find plenty of info on the PCM tune!

Cool Re: What kind mods have yall done?

My '03 has the following done to it.

  • Black custom grill
  • black line-x front bumper
  • black line-x rear bumper
  • black line-x OE 16" wheels w/ chrome caps
  • Go-Rhino push bumper
  • dual split fog lamps w/ strobe hidaway bulbs
  • high beam override kit
  • 2 hidaway strobe bulbs in place of the DRL bulbs
  • 2 High intensity LED front turn signals
  • SVP remote light/siren control
  • Liberty Lightbar (although i'm about to remove it)
  • 100 Watt flat siren speaker mounted behind Driver side tow hook.
  • 5 Ultra high intensity TIR3 red LEDs in the taillamps and 3rd brake lite
  • 2 ultra high intensity TIR3 amber LEDs in the clear sections of the rear lamp housings
Thats it for now. I am looking at possibly doing some performance mods to it like a sealed air intake and a Gibson exhaust right away. Things to maybe follow would be headers, higher flow intake manifold, and its about getting time for a complete tune up so I will go with good MSD or Accel cables, rotor, dist. cap, and a quality set of plugs.

Is there something else that I could do to step it up a notch, without breaking the bank? Keep in mind it has the 4.3L V6.

Thanks guys.
