Question Steering column grommet ?

What's the easiest way to replace this grommet?

I made a long cut on the bottom of the grommet and slipped it on. Cut it all the way through. It's a real pita to remove the column just to put that on.

Mine already had a slit in it when I got it, and it made my life a lot easier.

mine also has the slit in it.alot easier to remove that way.
