Wo runs an MSD distributor?
I am getting ready to buy ignition components for my 327 and I am lost between the different Pro-Billets. They have the Pro-Billet Ready-to-Run, The street pro-billet, the pro-billet, and teh pro-billet HEI.
I am going to be running a MSD Digital 6 box. I am torn between the pro-billet and the street pro-billet. What are the advantages of having/not having vacuum advance? What are the disadvantages? This engine will see the high side of 7,900 rpm with a solid roller cam... I am just trying to get the best dist. for my setup... opinions? thanks

Re: Wo runs an MSD distributor?
the pro billet dizzy is for a race engine with a very lumpy cam where you might have your timing chain gears advanced or retarted to have timing built into a engine..thus no need for a dizzy vacuum advance pod
on a stock to mild built engine..a vacuum advance is the way to go.. on my 496 hyd cam engine with a lumpy cam i have no vacuum advance on my pro billet dizzy. but i run a double pumper carb.. on a engine with a carb that runs vacuum secondarys thats mildy built a vacuum advance helps the carb and engine work together.. 8000 rpm's a lot of rev's..this engine better be built like a mofo. to withstand that with aftermarket rods pistons, crank, arp bolts, balanced, sfi everything,,heads, ---stort term----engine. anyway good luck..mark Last edited by rage'nrat638; 12-13-2006 at 07:38 PM. |

Re: Wo runs an MSD distributor?
yeah it is build on the high nickle block, forged 3.25" crank, Manley H beams 6" rods with cap bolts, Ross pistons, Brodix Heads with 2.02/1.60" manley Pro Flow Valves, Comp 289 solid roller cam...
should be a runner I hope... thanks for the input.... that cleared things up for me a lot...

Re: Wo runs an MSD distributor?
I have the pro billet with the vacuum advance and I love the adjustablility of the whole system. I run the 6AL box and the blaster coil with matching wires and have never had a problem.

Re: Wo runs an MSD distributor?
sounds like a non vacuum advane model is where you need to be...
sounds like a killer engine heres a picture of the 638 ci dart block with a 6al box probillet dizzy 1250 dominator carb the box on the right is a msd multi function controll box that lets you adjust timing to each cyl. launch rpm's a ton of stuff.. 20,000 engine .. no need for a whimpy vacuum advance pod lets see soime pictures Last edited by rage'nrat638; 07-12-2007 at 07:00 AM. |

Re: Wo runs an MSD distributor?
i would want the vaccum advance on it if it were me, on my race car i just advanced the timing and locked it in place with no advance, but it was not a daily driver whatsoever

Re: Wo runs an MSD distributor?
That engine is awesom. Real nice job. I do have one comment though, why are you still running a mechanical fan? An electric set up would be good for another 12 to 15 HP.
