I am getting ready to start some of the body work on my 70 swb truck. I cannot locate a good metal bed bottom, so I am considering going with a wood bed. Is there anyone that has completed this swap, and what was involved?

I took out the metal bed in my Jimmy and replaced with a wood kit. The hardest part for me was getting the metal out. Ended up buying a pair of electric shears (milwaukee) and eazed the pain somewhat. You could use a angle grinder, buy lots and lots of cut off wheels, to noisy for me...

Start at the back of the bed, cut out a cross section between the crossmembers. Start at the next crossmember by drilling out the spot welds when your clear of the crossmember, you can start to cut out another section of floor. I had to replace 3 of the 4 or 5 crossmembers, if you don't have to use them it makes it alot easier. I just tightened the carriage bolts on the bed sides till they snapped, makes it alot easier

if you have acess to plasma cutter cnc you could get a flat metal bed cut out, and then cut out peices to weld on top. Ive seen it done with flames.
