differences of NP208 transfer case
Its out of an 86 full size blazer-any benefits using this versus whatever is in my 72 truck. My current shift pattern is (front) 4Lo/N/2H/4H (I'm pretty sure this is correct)-do I all ready have a 208? what years did they begin making the electronic button shift (like the one in my 96 Suburban). Has anyone done a retrofit?
thanks, Paul |

If it's stock you have an NP205(gear driven, iron case) almost hands down the best. The NP208 is aluminum with a chain has a lower low range(2.61 vs. 1.96 of the 205). What's probably in your 96 is a NV241 or 243 has a 2.72 low is similar to the 208. Another difference is the tails shaft on the 208s and 241s they are not desirable but there are kits available to convert them to a TC mounted yoke. Basically if you take the rear driveshaft out of a 208 or 241 you will loose TC fluid. Did I also mention they have a chain and are aluminum?
The 208 can be swapped in place of the 205 with an adapter from advanced adapters, will also need a new rear driveshaft.

Oh yea, the NV243 is the electronic shift TC, appeared around 1993.

Your 205 will outlast a handful of 208's... F@ck the aluminum junk and wimpy chains, stick with cast iron and gears. (unless weight is an issue)

205! 205! (EVERYBODY!) 205! 205! (LOUDER!)
I like the 205 better, can ya tell?:p NP 205's are one of the big reasons I came back to an older truck to begin with. They're durable as heck and easy to fix. Tough to beat! Just check the 4WD mags and see how many newer trucks are being retrofitted with 205s. ou already have what you want.
