Re: Change out motor mount
well this would not be a very fun job.. if you have power steering you will need to remove that bracket..lots of Patience. i think putting the truck up on a lift would be the best bet and working from the bottom..
the engine will need to be jacked or lifted up... anything can be done..we know you can do it heres a picture of that bracket and the passenger side with no exhaust and crap in the way... Last edited by rage'nrat638; 07-12-2007 at 07:00 AM. |

Re: Change out motor mount
You can use a carb plate and a engine lift, or find some longer bolts to put in place of the ones where your intake manifold bolts on and put the bolts through part of the chain and tighten the bolts, connect the chain to the engine lift and pull it up enough to change the mounts.Assuming a engine lift is available for use.

Re: Change out motor mount
The way I have always lifted an engine up, is to place a piece of 2x4 across the part of the oil pan where the plug is. Get a floor jack and put it under the 2x4 and lift the engine up. You don't need to go far with it. Now I know someone will jump in on this saying, NO, don't do that, you'll bent the oil pan. Again, has never happened to me. Again, just don't put the 2x4 in the middle of the pan, only across the outer edges of the pan.

Re: Change out motor mount
I have used the pan before too. I just prefer the hoist. I would use a 1" thick piece of plywood that would make contact with the whole sump section of the pan. That way there's less chance of it caving in. I used Energy Suspension on mine.

Re: Change out motor mount
I do it with the 2X4 also and I have a hoist. Just remove the motor mount bolt, power steering bracket that goes to the motor mount. You will need to watch the fan and shroud. I usually just remove the shroud and lay it against the front of the motor. That way it will move with the motor and not break. Then you just need to get in there and get the motor mounts loose and changed. It's not real bad. Just make sure you watch your fingers. If your into safety like I am you can shove a 4x4 piece of wood under the pan on top of the crossmember in case the jack fails. Will save your hands if it does.
