My "GM HYDROMATIC" pan is always wet. The many bolt heads are really not that tight, when i'm under the truck i periodically tighten the bolts but i'm afraid to over tighten, so i quarter turn them... yet it still is wet. Should i tighten more, unbolt and replace the seal or is there another issue?

Your "tin" stock pan is warped. Either get an aluminum one or you can straighten the old one. Put a straight edge along the sealing edges and tweak it and eyeball it till you're happy with your work. Oh, be careful not to hammer out the raised beads formed in between the bolt holes, they're designed to stiffen it up and keep it from springing outward when installed. Get a new cork/rubber gasket and use your favorite goo (not silicone) to seal it to the pan, then torque the bolts to 25 in lbs. Good time to clean the rust off and make it pretty with a little paint, not to mention new filter and fluid. Gasket comes with the filter kit at NAPA.

thanks Sam, sound advice there. Actually the trans fuid has kept the rust off. I like the old pan but i wonder if a better aluminum one is in order. I'll try to reseal the old first, paint her pretty and hope i can make good again. I like stock
