anyone ever tried this ..update
Have top set in place. Clecos holding the halves together. It seems to have quite a bit of roll to the top looking at it from the side. Not really sure that is what I want. Was hoping to keep it more squared off to match truck body lines. What do you think? Last pic is of just front half of top on truck, seems alot more square. That is what I was going for, but by tying rear half to front seem to have lost the line.

Re: anyone ever tried this ..update
Dave I sort of like the look of the first pics. The squared off look just looks too, well, cobbled up if you don't mind me saying so. The truck cabs are not squared that much. That "racer back" look is something different for these model trucks. I could get along with it just fine. No offense Dave. JMO.

Re: anyone ever tried this ..update
Boog, no offense taken. I appreciate the comments of peers that have seen thousands of mods done to these trucks, it means alot. 68gmc454, think I'm going with a tonneau instead of hatch, have to put BOWTIE rear window in though. Will come from top of hatch to bed and then to tailgate.

Re: anyone ever tried this ..update
i might have the photo shop guys take 4-6in out of the width of the angle back to see what it would look like but it's an interesting twist on the body style. looks pretty cool to me.

Re: anyone ever tried this ..update
I modified the picture for you.
The first picture is shorter by a few inches. The second picture the angle is changed a little. changing the angle would take alot of work IMO. |

Re: anyone ever tried this ..update
Looks like its time to get my glass in gear. Thanks for the feed back. Probably be a few weeks till get it done. Have surgery scheduled day after Christmas and will be laid up for a couple of weeks. That is gonna be a killer, brain in high gear and can't do anything.

Re: anyone ever tried this ..update
did you ever own an old international scout terra, thats what the first pic reminded me of ? i personally like the last pic that was photoshopped--a little less angle looks best in my opinion. best of luck with your surgery--and your project.

Re: anyone ever tried this ..update
I think your first pic looks the best. The top needs some thickness or it starts to look like a bubble.

Re: anyone ever tried this ..update
I like the first picture best as well. I only have one request. Don't, please don't put in a bowtie rear window. I mean it's you're truck, so do what you want, but anytime I've ever see one like that I just thought that it looks cheesy & hack. JMHO.
I also have one suggestion. Why don't you use the rear hatch? You can put in a bulhead for it to mate up to at the bottom & you'd have a "super-cab" blazer with a useable hatch. You could still do the tonneau behind it or just leave it as a really short bed. I think it would be totally awesome to do that. Functional AND trick!! Best of both worlds! Later, Buddy

Re: anyone ever tried this ..update
I too liked the Photoshop pic. Just don't know if I have the skills needed to make those mods. I took the top off the Blazer tonight, and have measured, schemed and dreamed to pull this off. I have done all the work myself, so far, and am reluctant to let anyone else do it for me. It has 355 with flat tops, RV cam, rebuilt tranny, 410 posi front and rear with discs on front. Paint is acrylic enamel (original color), all body work, motor work and paint was done by me and I still have a list of things, that seem to be endless, that I want to do. The original factory air even stills blows cold!! The idea with the Bowtie tonneau maybe a litle cheesey. Not sure about that yet, have a ways to go before I cross that bridge. Pics will be forthcomming as is with progress. If in doubt go with Flowmasters, they sound great!!!

Re: anyone ever tried this ..update
I would take a look at creating a fixed rear window. Maybe use the frame of the side windows. I think trying to put the hatch door in is going to cause it to stress and crack eventually.

I say go for it!! The clecos, (or maybe some rivets in the same locations), can hold it all together even when it's finished. That's the beauty of fiberglass, if you screw it up, redo it. Later, Buddy
