Re: 72 truck with 92 350 ci

Are you still gonna run a carb?

Finding a carb intake for the 87-93 series SBCs can be a ***** at times, its like.....half Vortec/half traditional.

And yes, if your running the carb I would use a mechanical pump. I know the newer style have a boss to mount one....I think its blocked from the factory though.

If your using the flywheel from the 92, then you shouldnt need to change the flywheel to mount it up to and TH530. Be warned though.....some of the "newer" blocks have a straight bolt pattern for the starter, as opposed to the staggered style were all accustomed too.

Hope that answered your questions.

Mitch

Re: 72 truck with 92 350 ci

I put an 88 engine in my 69. In order to use a carb you can either use an earlier factory carb intake and slot the two center holes on each side of the intake or buy an aftermarket aluminum intake. I bought an Edelbrock Performer for the 88 up engines and put my quadrajet on it. Not hard to come by, just order it up, about $150. Your engine will still have a fuel pump mounting boss. The hole may not be drilled for the pump push rod though. If not you will need to use an electric inline pump. Somewhere along in the early ninetys GM quit boring the blocks for the pump rod. It's not something you can do.
Welcome to the boards.

Re: 72 truck with 92 350 ci

I swapped a Gen II 350 from a early 90's truck into my 84 camaro.

as boog stated the only difference is that the 4 center intake bolts (2 on either side of the carb tower) are angled differently. Edelbrock provides information on how to modify the bolt holes to accomodate these heads with the standard performer intake (2101) . All you have to do is elongate the holes, and after 5 minutes with my dremel, the job was done.

I went this route, and it sure beats spending the extra $$$ on the 87-and up manifold.

as far as the fuel pump, I'm not saying it isn't possible, but I have yet to see a Gen II block that isn't drilled for the mechanical fuel pump pushrod. just remove the block off plate, install the pump and have fun.
