Re: 1980 K-2500 Gmc with electrical problem
You just have to start tracing wires. Start with the easy stuff, find all the grounds, clean the connection points on them. That alone might fix it. It seems like you have power going back through the circuit. It could be at a bulb socket or in the dash. Check the plug connections behind the intrument cluster. If none of that works time to start chasing wires.
I personally ended up with a bad headlight switch when I had similar problems to you. $7 switch later I was good to go. |

Re: 1980 K-2500 Gmc with electrical problem
had almost excact same problem,,check to see if the 4 way flasher is pushed in,mine didnt have a 4 way flasher installed in fuse box, accidently pushed in button, drove me nuts,,pulled out switch, problem solved,i have an old post about it in electrical section..could be something else but sure sounds like what mine was doing. make sure the 4 way button is disengaged,if that fixes everything lighting up problem,,then check to make sure there is a working flasher installed in fuse box..

My 80 K25 truck had a similar problem -- It was a short in the steering column wiring, which, like yours, was kinda loose.
Its very easy to fix both the slop in the steering column, and replace the signal cam Just be happy yours doesn't do everything mine did -- Mine honked the horn whenever I stepped on the brake, lol
