cluster plug question

I have a gauge cluster in my truck but am thinking about puting an idiot light cluster in it. Will the stock plug work or will I have to change anything?

Re: cluster plug question

Hey corn. I can't speak from experience but I think you will have to install an electric oil pressure sending unit. Not sure about the rest. I believe there are some wire harness differences. Most guys go from lights to gauges. What gives?

Re: cluster plug question

I installed all OLD S-W gauges & an OLD sun tach & having two sets of gauges bugs the crap out of me. Ill hang onto the stock cluster but thought this old idiot light cluster would make me happier for at least a week or two. I dont care if the idiots work, I just like to make things difficult for myself.

Re: cluster plug question

There's a thread in the faq (check the index link in my thread) on changing the wires from idiot light to gauge, should be able to do it backwards for what you want.

Re: cluster plug question

I think it might fry your fuel gauge if it's wired wrong.

Re: cluster plug question

Thanks for the link Krue, I forgot all about looking there. I see from one of the links there that I would have to rewire some of the plug. I think Ill just leave my cluster because I wanted to be able to run either & dont want to cobble wiring do go that route. Thanks for helping me decide...

Re: cluster plug question

GMC Paul has a wonderful tech section on going from lights to gauges with a diagram. Just reverse it.
